PLAYING WITH PLAYS!

Saturdays, 2:30 to 4pm, beginning in May,  FREE!

EXCEPT NOT Saturday, May 10!   INSTEAD on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 11.

– Playing With Plays is a chance to get familiar with theatrical methods while having fun with friends and soon to be friends.

Every session, when players arrive, Director Jeannette Jaquish will look at who is there and pick a scene from her many scripts and assign roles. Then we will read it aloud (run the lines) discuss the character’s personalities and what is going on in their heads and how each character might move and express his/herself.  We will decide how the characters move during the scene and the cues for their entrances and exits.

We will take breaks to visit the nearby performance space, learn skills with wood tools or sewing, or practice a physical theatrical skill, like a dance step or pratfall,  then resume working with the script, trying to memorize a bit of the play.  End of the play session at 3:50pm, we will perform it for anyone we can drag in to watch.

Parents may leave minors after signing a guardian release waiver.  Family members not participating may sit at tables or on a mat nearby to rest or chat or look at their phones.

If you sign up for a TekVenture membership, family members not participating in PWP may go make things at TekVenture in the clay shop, or welding or wood shop or any of the many other Worx areas.

Non-members of TekVenture cannot wander outside the Playing with Plays space without a TekVenture supervisor. [Photo: “Don’t Look in the Lake”]

  • Text or call Jeannette Jaquish at 260 750-9013, or jeannettejaquish@yahoo.com.

Jeannette will meet with you and see what skills you have and what skills you need to learn. She will guide you to rent affordable storage if needed, and show you where tools and paint and things are.

  • Contact me first: Jeannette at 260 750-9013 to tell me what you want to do and what skills you already have. I will meet with you.

Always clean up after yourself. Don’t leave projects out on tables. Rent a very affordable drawer, locker or cubby in the Attic, if you need to leave your project over days.

Supervise children. There are sharp scissors and pins, hammers and staplers to get hurt with, and it is not impossible for a child to climb the rail or stand on a chair to look over the rail and fall to the next floor.

  • The Artistic Attic has LOTS of beautiful fabrics, free for you to use, and some costume and purse patterns. We have interesting wood scraps to build upon also and some cardstock for paintings, and hardware for metal creations. All free.
